I Started My Tourism Since 2006

I was born into a very poor family, and since childhood, I knew my parents couldn’t afford my expenses. I grew up in the Himalayan district of the Everest region, where I was introduced to tourism at a young age because some elders in the village worked in that industry. I aspired to make money by working in tourism, although I didn’t fully understand the challenges involved. When I was 14 years old in 2006, I went to Lukla, the gateway to Mount Everest, during the festival holidays to work as a porter.
I faced difficulties finding work, as no one was willing to hire me due to my young age and the risks involved in the job. It was only on the fourth day that I met Chris Lohss from America and his friends. With the help of my friend’s relative, I asked Chris’s guide, Bharat Karki, to let me work as a porter for them, and fortunately, he accepted. That opportunity marked the beginning of my trekking experience. Since then, Chris has been an integral part of my journey in the tourism industry, providing unwavering support. I am sincerely grateful to him for his help and guidance.
I Worked For Khumbu Climbing Center

I worked at the Khumbu Climbing Center for four seasons, from 2018 to 2019, and also in 2022. The Khumbu Climbing Center is a climbing facility operated by the prestigious Alex Lowe Foundation of America. Funded by Alex Lowe, this school has provided valuable support to many climbers in Nepal. Each year, the center offers training to approximately 90 people in mountaineering. Both American and Nepali instructors provide training to the students. It has been in operation since 2004 and now has its own well-equipped building in Nepal. In addition to climbing facilities, the building houses a library, medical center, office, gym, climbing wall, and gear and storage rooms. The center provides training in three categories: wall climbing, rock climbing, and ice climbing, and is considered crucial for the success of mountaineers. Remarkably, it operates without any investment from the Nepali government. The center is located in Fortse Village, under the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality in the Everest Region, and is a significant contributor to Nepal’s tourism sector, not only in the Everest region but also more broadly. Nepali workers, along with American architects and builders, have played a significant role in constructing this building. The building was inaugurated on June 13, 2019, by Sherdhan Rai, the Chief Minister of Province No. One, and Jenni, the president of the Alex Lowe Foundation. Jenni is the president of the organization, and Conrad Anker is the vice president of the foundation. Alex, who was Jenni’s husband, and Conrad, who was his friend, started the Alex Foundation in memory of Alex, who was a legendary climber. Unfortunately, Alex died while climbing Mount Shishapangma in Tibet. After his death, Jenni and Conrad initiated the Alex Foundation to honor his legacy and to engage in various mountaineering-related activities. The Nepali people hold deep respect for Alex’s family for their significant contributions to Nepal. I am grateful to my fellow board member Chris Lohss and the Alex Lowe family for allowing me to work there. Guinness World Record Holder's Mera Peak Expedition 2021

We organized the Guinness World Record Holders’s Mera Peak Expedition 2021 event on September 27th, 2021, featuring world record holders. Our main concern was the condition of our mountains. Are they as bad and dirty as we’ve heard? The event aimed to raise awareness about the state of the mountains and to promote tourism in Nepal after the COVID-19 pandemic. I took on the responsibility of leading the event. We, as world record holders, planned to climb Mera Peak and write a book about the mountain’s situation. We intended to make a documentary from Kathmandu to the Peak to promote tourism. One member of our team was an environmental scientist, and our goal was to conduct scientific research about the mountains. After the research, we planned to provide detailed information about the condition of the mountains in a book. We began the journey as summer approached, and it was quite challenging. We aimed to reach the peak, and we walked in a group of 17 people. The program was organized by the Nepal Mountaineering Association and others, who congratulated us and wished us success. This endeavor was new and important for the tourism sector, presenting both a challenge and an opportunity to achieve our goal. It wasn’t just a climb; we aimed to set a world record for climbers from around the world. It was also a practice and a test for us. After much hard work, we successfully achieved our goal and returned safely. The leadership responsibilities, along with both the merits and demerits, were in my hands. There was also a distinct joy in our success after all the hard work.
Guinness World Record 2020

The tourism industry is the main backbone of Nepal’s economy, and many Nepalese depend on it for their livelihoods. I used to work in the tourism sector until the 2019 Covid pandemic devastated the industry, leaving us all unemployed and confined to our homes. During the lockdown, I reflected on a place called Gokyo Ri, which I consider a piece of heaven on earth. Gokyo Ri offers a 360° view of the mountains and is the best place to see the Everest region, with four mountains over 8000 meters visible from one spot. Despite its breathtaking beauty, places like Gokyo Ri remain relatively unknown due to lack of publicity. I decided to promote this location globally and even had a song written about Gokyo Ri to shoot a music video there. Gokyo Ri, situated at an altitude of 5357 meters, holds the record for the world’s highest video shoot, a title we submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records. However, Guinness’s guidelines required us to record the audio song using live instruments at the same location as the video shoot. Despite the increased challenge, we persevered and successfully recorded the song at a height of 4813 meters, marking the first time a song was recorded outside a studio at such an altitude. This feat was administratively and practically difficult, and it was a risky endeavor led by myself and our investors. However, despite the challenges, our team achieved our dream on November 7, 2020, marking the biggest success of my life.
World's Highest Climate Summit 2022

“Nepal is a small, landlocked country spanning 147181 square kilometers, surrounded by mountains and hills. It is home to 1,310 mountains above 6,000 meters, including the world’s highest peaks, such as Mount Everest. There are 8 mountains higher than 8,000 meters. Despite limited industrial activity, Nepal produces only 0.025% carbon. Regrettably, Nepal is the fourth most affected country in the world, suffering the adverse effects of climate change. Although it contributes relatively less to carbon emissions, our country has become a victim of climate change, particularly in the high Himalayan regions. These effects have disrupted life for creatures worldwide in unprecedented ways. It’s crucial to understand the prevention and alternatives to mitigate these impacts.
The direct effects of climate change are evident in Nepal, with the rapid melting of snow in the mountains and transformation into rock, turning mountain base camps into lakes. It’s imperative to draw the world’s attention to this issue. Our organization, the World Record Holder Society, is deeply concerned about this matter and has organized the world’s highest scientific climate summit in 2022 to uncover the facts. The World’s Highest Climate Summit 2022 was held on May 29, 2022, at Everest base camp. Two American universities, represented by Joel Berger from Colorado State University and Joanna Lambert from the University of Colorado, participated in the summit, aiming to raise awareness about climate change from the world’s highest point. We are proud to have made this significant contribution to the climate change discourse. Our efforts garnered congratulations and well-wishes from government officials, the vice president’s office, the Nepal Mountaineering Association, and various other organizations, recognizing and appreciating our work. Additionally, this event has set a world record. As the president of the society, I am proud to have led this successful event.”
